  19. Well  another CHIT CHAT and again I have no idea what I am going to  waffle 
  20. on about.  This could break all records for being the shortest, most boring 
  21. or  the most nonsensical (or all three) CHIT CHAT ever.  Usually I  seem to 
  22. have  a few bits of gossip or news that I can tell you about but try  as  I 
  23. might, nothing  good  is coming to me as I sit here plonking  away  at  the 
  24. keyboard. It could be that it is 7:20 am and I am feeling like shit because 
  25. I  would rather be asleep in bed.  What am I doing banging away on the  old 
  26. Atari this early on a Sunday (yup!  its really 7:20 Sunday) you  ask.  Well 
  27. like  it or not I am going to tell you and while I am at it I may  as  well 
  28. tell you a little bit about myself...

  31. Family:   I am married to a perfect woman called Rita who puts up with  all 
  32. my  strange ways and humour (she actually likes my jokes) and is  the  only 
  33. person  who can see through me when I start pretending I know all  about  a 
  34. subject  and start to lecture my friends.  I'm sorry if that sounds  a  bit 
  35. vague but you have to know me to understand.  I have two  daughters,  Kelly 
  36. and  Vikki who must have at least a million friends each and every  one  of 
  37. them take turns to phone them up at least twice a day. This means our phone 
  38. is  in constant use and we have to douse it in cold water every 90  minutes 
  39. otherwise it gets so hot the plastic melts and it sticks to your ear. Kelly 
  40. is the oldest and the most like Rita.  She is organised,  sensible and very 
  41. hardworking.  Vikki is the youngest,  and most like me, she is unorganised, 
  42. leaves keys,  books,  money and anything else on buses,  in  McDonalds  and 
  43. anywhere  else  she can.  She also has my sense of humour and  does  stupid 
  44. things.

  46. Hobbies:   I like fishing and messing about with my Atari.
  47.  
  48. Work    :   I work for the Woolwich in the property services.  I  leave  my 
  49. house  at 7:45am and get home anytime between 7 to 8 in the evening  Monday 
  50. to Friday and on Saturday I leave for work 8:30am and get home at 4:30pm. I 
  51. don't  get paid enough but at least it's a job, it doesn't leave much  time 
  52. for other stuff so that is my excuse for not learning to program.

  55. Ok, I'm fed up with doing me so let me tell you about why I am here instead 
  56. of  being in bed.  Remember Vikki?  - she's the nutty one.  Last night  she 
  57. decided she was going to go on a paper round with her mate.  She had to get 
  58. up at 6am and meet them at 6:30am. No big deal you may think, but you don't 
  59. know Vikki!  When she is not at school she can easily sleep until noon  and 
  60. still  be tired all day.  When I asked her why she wanted to go on a  paper 
  61. round she said, "'coz it will be a laugh!".  The only way to get her up  at 
  62. that  time in the morning is to plug her tongue into the mains and throw  a 
  63. rat  under the quilt.  That is why I had to get up at 5:55am on  Sunday  to 
  64. wake  her up. I couldn't go back to sleep so that is why I ended up  on  my 
  65. Atari feeling like shit.

  67. One  last  thing about this little episode,  since I have been  doing  this 
  68. Vikki  has come back and immediately jumped back into bed and is  now  fast 
  69. asleep.

  73. I  went to the Atari show in London a few weeks ago and met James  for  the 
  74. first time.  The show was good - James was awful.  Nah!,  not really,  only 
  75. joking  James.  It  is  the second Atari show that I have  been  to  and  I 
  76. prefered  it to the first one,  there seemed to be more there and I got  to 
  77. talk  to  more people (not hard really as I didn't speak to anyone  at  the 
  78. first one).  Warpzone  were  conspicuous by there absence  but  PDL's  were 
  79. represented by Goodmans,  Merlin and Riverdene although I am not sure  that 
  80. Riverdene  were actually selling PD at the show as it seemed all they  were 
  81. advertising was their commercial stuff and hardware.  Caspian Software were 
  82. showing a preview of thier new game (the name escapes me at the moment) but 
  83. it looks totally amazing.  The usual mix of hardware and software companies 
  84. were also fairly well represented with plenty of Atari's and a few Falcon's 
  85. scattered  around  to mess about with.  The thing that amazed me  was  that 
  86. there  were plenty of Jaguars advertised and on sale but none were out  for 
  87. playing on.  Vic Wright of ST Handbook got one out at the end of  the  show 
  88. but by then most people had left. It made me wonder if they had not put one 
  89. out  earlier  in case everyone just congregated around the Jaguar  and  not 
  90. bothered with the rest of the stalls.

  92. I am not going to go on about the show too much as I expect James will give 
  93. a good run down of what was there and I am going to do an article about  it 
  94. anyway.  Read  it if you can because I might just give you all the dirt  on 
  95. our glorious leader and editor.

  99. My  bit of news is that I intend starting a PD library called ASCIILUM PDL.
  100. The  name is a play on words linking ASCII and Asylum.  The reason  I  have 
  101. explained  this is that someone - who shall remain nameless - didn't get it 
  102. and I had to explain it to them.  One of the reasons I decided on  ASCIILUM 
  103. is that I should be in a bloody asylum to start up a PDL when most of  them 
  104. are now going bust. In the past I have offered cheap disks, swapping PD and 
  105. to  be  a  contact  and have had a pretty lousy response  so  come  on  you 
  106. Atarians let's have a bit of support with this one.I won't promise next day 
  107. delivery and I won't promise a help line (you  probably know more  than  me 
  108. anyway) but I will try to give the best that I can.  The catalogue won't be 
  109. ready until about a week after the release of POWER so you may have to wait 
  110. a couple of days for the catalogue if you want one.  Just send a blank disk 
  111. and I will pay for return postage.

  115. Computer Porn.  We have all heard of it but has anyone actually seen it?  I 
  116. don't  mean the slideshows of semi naked ladies that are no worse than what 
  117. you see in the Sun newspaper,  but the real hardcore stuff.  I hadn't until 
  118. recently but I now know what all the fuss is about.  Yes it is a shame that 
  119. this is readily available to people who shouldn't be seeing it and yes,  it 
  120. is  going  to  be bloody hard to control it,  and yes it  is  going  to  be 
  121. immpossible to stop it. So is there an answer? I've thought about it 'coz I 
  122. wanted  to  do an article about it but for the first time it  has  left  me 
  123. without an idea and completely speechless (or should that be wordless?).The 
  124. only thing I can come up with is that if one of these disks comes into your 
  125. possession  DON'T  spread it - not even to friends - as you cannot  be sure 
  126. that they will not spread it to others.  Those who want computer porn  will 
  127. find  it  anyway.  If some comes into your possession and you don't want it 
  128. blank  it straight away, don't keep it just to show a mate - you  might get 
  129. tempted to pass it on. In other words, self-regulation is the only true way 
  130. to control the situation and that is a pretty lame way to do it. Perhaps we 
  131. should all stop talking about it - so I will shut up.

  138. Atari  Update is a new disk mag by a guy called David Pettifer that I  have 
  139. been  mentioning  off and on for a few months now and the first  issue  has 
  140. finally hit the streets.  I  think David has a small crew helping him but I  
  141. am not  too  sure about that.  It has lots of reviews and all the stuff you 
  142. expect from a diskmag and I think it is quite well done. Please invest in a 
  143. stamp and a disk and write to David and he will send you a copy.  There has 
  144. been  a lot of effort put into the mag and a few requests for a copy  would 
  145. really be appreciated.  I wish I had put this at the start of my CHIT  CHAT 
  146. as  I seem to have rambled on quite a bit and there may not be many of  you 
  147. left reading this.  Those that have got this far please ask him for a  copy 
  148. and tell him I sent you THANKS.  (ATARI UPDATE #1 can be obtained from POWER  
  149. P.D. on disk PWR 368 - POWER).
